We were in York city centre on the 18th April 2026 catering for Joseph’s wedding at the De Grey Rooms, just by York Minster and opposite the Theatre Royal. Around 120 guests for this one, and a great venue right in the middle of the city.
City centre events are always a bit different compared to garden parties or rural venues. Access is tighter, timings matter more, and everything needs to be planned properly before you even arrive.
For this one, we had a 20-minute window to park up, unload, and get everything inside before moving the van to a nearby car park. That’s just how it works in the centre of York. Once we were unloaded, the van was moved to a local car park at a £25 fee, and we got straight into setup.
Due to the layout of the venue, we ran things slightly differently. The hog was set up and cooked downstairs, where we had the space to work properly. Then for service, we carved downstairs and transported the hot pork up to the first floor where guests were being served.
It worked well. Everything stayed hot, and service upstairs ran smoothly without guests needing to move between areas. It’s one of those setups that takes a bit more planning, but once it’s in place, it runs just as it should.
Serve time was 6:45 pm, and we got straight into it. Fresh rolls ready, stuffing warm, apple sauce heated through, and some lovely side salads. With 120 guests, it’s all about keeping things moving without building queues.
Service flowed well from the start. A steady line of guests, no hold-ups, and everyone fed in good time. The crackling went quickly as usual, and there were plenty of comments about how tender the pork was.
The guests really made this one. A great group, good atmosphere, and everything just felt relaxed and well organised from start to finish.
Despite the tighter access and different setup, everything ran exactly how it should. We had everyone served efficiently, kept things clean and organised, and packed down without any issues.
